Hines is no stranger to making a mark on the Denver skyline. The Houston-based developer built Wells Fargo Center. Better known among locals as the “cash register building,” the 698-foot tower is perhaps the Mile High City’s most recognizable high-rise. After decades of planning and more than 2 1/2 years of construction, the company on Wednesday will finally cut the ribbon of its next impossible-to-miss contribution to Denver’s architectural catalog: the 1144 Fifteenth tower. Standing 603 feet and 40 stories tall, the monumental, glass-wreathed structure at the corner of 15th and Arapahoe streets is the city’s fourth tallest building, creating a western bookend to the city’s skyline opposite Wells Fargo Center at the east side. With design rules limiting the height of new construction to its west, the upper floors of 1144 Fifteenth offer a view of the entire mountain ribbon of Colorado’s Front Range.
