The Colorado Court of Appeals on Wednesday overturned a ruling that Teller County sheriff’s deputies are allowed to act as federal immigration officials to detain people in the country illegally. A major mortgage lender with offices across the country is cutting 187 more positions from its office in Greenwood Village after having announced the elimination of a total of 420 jobs in two previous rounds of layoffs. Newrez, based in Pennsylvania, said the latest layoffs will start Aug. 26 and will likely be permanent.

The Central Division had the best top-three teams in the NHL last season, but a terrible last-place club kept it from being the league’s best from top to bottom. That might change this season.
