ATLANTA  — Atlanta public school officials have confirmed that a student was shot over the weekend in a school parking lot after a football game.
School district spokeswoman Latisha Gray said in a statement Sunday that the student was in good condition after being shot Friday night in the parking lot of Benjamin Elijah Mays High School in southwest Atlanta.

WHAT: The former restaurant site has been an eyesore and the subject of a Code Enforcement effort to get the owner to clean it up since 2015. Last week, an Aiken County judge ordered the owner to finish the cleanup by Nov. 1 or she would issue a warrant for his arrest. If it comes to that, he could spend 30 days in jail.

Augusta showed off its hospitality to thousands of Hurricane Matthew evacuees, but officials say lessons can be learned from the rare occurrence.
Thousands fled coastal areas by car to the homes of friends and family and an estimated 22,000 stayed in Augusta hotels. Hundreds of patients were evacuated to Augusta hospitals and nursing homes.

Like many Augusta voters, Frank Williams plans to vote early in the Nov. 8 general election.
“I’ve made up my mind – I’ve got my ballot in my head,” Williams said.
That means, the three-time Democratic convention delegate said, a straight ticket – Hillary Clinton for president, Jim Barksdale for U.S. Senate, Richard Roundtree for Richmond County sheriff.
He’s also decided on two ballot questions critical to Richmond County schools.

There is no memorial or reminder of the tragedy that occurred at the corner of James Drive and Travis Road six years ago today when a 9-year-old was killed by a hit-and-run driver, but the unsolved case still lingers in the minds of the officers who responded.

CLEMSON, S.C. — Dabo Swinney rolled forward out of his crouch, exhaled deeply and slapped the ground. The Clemson coach knew how fortunate the third-ranked Tigers were to escape with their latest victory.
"There's something to be said for finding a way to win," Swinney said. "And there's something to be said for knowing how to win."
A little luck doesn't hurt either.
The Tigers (7-0, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) needed all of it to squeak past North Carolina State 24-17 in overtime Saturday.

Move over Tennessee Hail Mary, Georgia on Saturday walked into a homecoming humbling by Vanderbilt.
The Bulldogs are certainly making it hard on the home fans.
In the first game between the hedges since a last gasp defeat to a top 15 Volunteers team two weeks earlier, the Bulldogs went tumbling down again to 14-point underdog Vanderbilt 17-16 in Sanford Stadium.
Georgia lost at home to the Commodores for the first time since 2006 and for just the third time overall in the last 22 games against them.

ATLANTA — Beating state rival Georgia Southern won't make Georgia Tech's season.
Even so, it provided much-needed relief.
Justin Thomas was the difference in the matchup of spread-option offenses, running for two touchdowns and passing for another, and Georgia Tech beat Georgia Southern 35-24 on Saturday to end a three-game losing streak.
"It's definitely better than being on the other side," said Yellow Jackets senior center Freddie Burden.
