Rubio brings campaign to Lakeland

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio dropped by Southeastern University in Lakeland Saturday to give thanks to his many supporters who spent the morning knocking on doors and encouraging people to vote. "Together, we are going to win this election," he said to a large group of eager people. Rubio, who originally was not going to seek reelection to the Senate after running a failed presidential campaign, is currently leading in the Florida U.S. Senate race by a close call, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.

 

Campisi family gives sizable gift to Lakeland Regional Health cancer center

No one in Jean and Sal Campisi Sr.’s immediate family has had a cancer diagnosis but watching friends’ and in-laws’ travails and knowing about community need prompted them to channel a sizable donation to the Hollis Cancer Center expansion project. Lakeland Regional Health Foundation announced it has received a “significant” donation from the Campisi family and, as a result, will name the new chemotherapy area the Campisi Medical Oncology Suite and the new auditorium the Campisi Family Auditorium.
