Jury acquits Pontiac man in murder, assault case

William Nelson of Pontiac is once again a free man, after an Oakland County jury Monday found him not guilty of murder, assault with intent to murder and felony firearms charges.Nelson, 20, had been charged with shooting to death Marcus "Merk" Burkett, 23, and wounding Burkett's friend, Kyeire Cowart, then 17, at a house at 59 Thorpe Street where they and a group of others had been partying last July 3.

Man arraigned in 2011 homicide of Southfield neighbor

A former Southfield resident was arraigned Monday, May 14, in the 2011 homicide of his 81-year-old next-door neighbor.Darrin Bruce Keener, 52, was charged with one count of open murder and one count of disinterment and mutilation of dead bodies. He was arraigned in 46th District Court in Southfield via video arraignment from the Oakland County Jail.

Sheriff: Gunshot breaks man's leg during attempted robbery

A 19-year-old Pontiac man is hospitalized after being shot in the leg during what is believed to have been an attempted robbery at the Spring Lake Apartments on Sunday.According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the 700 block of Whittemore Street just before 7 p.
