Farmington Hills man arrested after allegedly crashing into house

A Farmington Hills man is in custody after he allegedly crashed a pickup truck into the front of a house.The hit-and-run crash occurred at about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at a house on Shiawassee Road west of Inkster Road.The home was occupied but no on was injured.The driver of the vehicle was seen fleeing the scene on foot.

Clinton River Paddlepalooza returns with kayak, canoe races and adventure paddle

Paddlepalooza, the annual canoe and kayak river paddle with the cities of Auburn Hills and Rochester Hills, is set this year for Saturday, June 2. Kicking off at 8:30 a.m. at Riverside Park in downtown Auburn Hills, the event offers two sets of races and an adventure paddle down the Clinton River, ending at the River Crest Banquet Center in Rochester Hills.

 

Auburn Hills Fire Department ranked top 3 percent in nation

The Auburn Hills Fire Department recently received a Class 3 Insurance Services Office rating, ranking in the top 3 percent of all fire departments in the nation. A four month independent, third-party audit of fire suppression capabilities was conducted on the department, which moved up two-points from its previous ranking.

 

Southfield attorney Mike Morse accused of taking 'kickbacks' in lawsuit

Prominent Southfield attorney Mike Morse accepted payments and had hidden ties to an MRI center where his law firm referred clients, according to a federal lawsuit filed by State Farm insurance company.A story in the Detroit Free Press says State Farm filed the lawsuit against more than a dozen area clinics, doctors and business owners it alleges were involved in no-fault auto insurance patient mills.

 

Pontiac educator running for Oakland County Board of Commissioners seat

Pontiac resident Kristina Karamo has announced her candidacy for Oakland County Board of Commissioners District 10. Karamo said her campaign will be focused on addressing the lack of quality jobs in the district, which includes Pontiac. "Citizens should not have to leave their community to find well-paying jobs," said Karamo.

 

Oakland County brings in $550,000 from annual spring auction

It didn't break any records but it sure is a lot of money. David Vanderveen, Oakland County's director of central services, said the annual county spring auction, held Saturday, brought in around $550,000 with over 460 people bidding. The money collected will go back to the county departments that donated auctions items including the water resources commissioner's office, sheriff's office, department of facilities management as well as the department of central services, which includes the Oakland County International Airport.

 

Royal Oak approves $94,209 settlement in suit against city, police officer

Royal Oak officials this week signed off on a settlement agreement with an Ann Arbor man who sued the city and a city police officer over his arrest for disorderly conduct in the downtown.The settlement is for a total of $94,209, of which $42,500 is being paid to the man's attorney.City Attorney Dave Gillam said the Ann Arbor man and another man he was with were arrested for disorderly conduct downtown in November 2015.

Warby Parker opens at Somerset Collection in TroyWarby Parker, a designer eyeglass retailer opened a second Michigan store on May 19, at Somerset Collection mall in Troy. Warby Parker has 65 retail locations in the U.S. and Canada. The other Michigan location is at 1449 Woodward Ave, Detroit.
