Morning Jolt: Gay marriage OK'd by Illinois legislators

The Illinois Senate and House approved a gay-marriage bill yesterday, and Gov. Pat Quinn has said he will sign it into law. Illinois would become the 15th state to legalize same-sex marriage. The law would go into effect on June 1 next year.

Becky Haugh won District 1 councilor on Tuesday night. School committeemembers Lisa Belmarsh and Diana Ruth Flemer were re-elected, and Kathleen Curran will join them as the top vote-getter in the race. All five at-large councilors were re-elected.
