SPRINGFIELD – Gov. JB Pritzker signed a law Friday capping monthly insulin costs at $100 for people covered by state-regulated commercial health insurance plans.

The Democrat approved the legislation that the General Assembly overwhelmingly approved in November after people with diabetes complained about a spike in out-of-pocket insulin costs.

Insulin is necessary for people with diabetes to regulate blood-sugar levels.

ANKARA, Turkey – A 6.8-magnitude earthquake rocked a sparsely-populated part of eastern Turkey on Friday, killing at least 18 people, injuring more than 500 and leaving about 30 trapped in the wreckage of toppled buildings, Turkish officials said.
