Schools’ HR director resigns, position might be left unfilled

The Lancaster County School District’s human resources director resigned Thursday after being on personal leave since Oct. 4, and school officials are unsure if they will fill the job.
Dr. Gwendolyn Conner, who came to the district in June 2008 as HR director, resigned Thursday.

 

Wreath-laying for vets at Kershaw city cemetery Saturday

KERSHAW – For the ninth straight year, Kershaw is participating in the holiday season National Wreaths Across America Day.
At noon Saturday, volunteers will place wreaths on the graves of more than 500 veterans buried at Kershaw City Cemetery.
It’s part of an annual effort that places more than 1.2 million wreaths on veterans’ markers at 1,230 locations.
This year, more than 200,000 wreaths will be placed at Arlington National Cemetery alone.

 

Rick Quinn Jr. pleads guilty in State House corruption case

Former House Majority Leader Rick Quinn Jr. pleaded guilty to official corruption Tuesday, after resigning from the S.C. House an hour before the hearing.
The Lexington Republican pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of misconduct in office.
First Circuit Solicitor and Special Prosecutor David Pascoe asked for the maximum sentence allowed, one year in prison, arguing that Quinn committed the worst crimes uncovered so far in the ongoing legislative corruption investigation.

Dogs sniff out marijuana in Buford High parking lot

The school district broke out the drug dogs for a random screening at Buford High School on Tuesday, and a student was charged with having marijuana in his truck.
Jacob Marshall Smith, 17, was charged with simple possession of marijuana after drugs dogs made a pass through the school parking lot, where his truck was located. Marijuana and two small knives were found Smith’s vehicle, according to a report from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

 

Woman charged in convenience store robbery

A Liberty Hill woman was charged with the armed robbery of the Twin Pines Convenience Store and Grill in Lancaster Monday night.

Jessica Luann Medlin, 25, was arrested Tuesday morning after a post on the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page resulted in a tip identifying her, said sheriff’s spokesman Doug Barfield.

 

Bud Light recliner just too tempting for thieves

Two men and a woman stole a promotional Bud Light recliner from an Indian Land convenience store on Dec. 2, and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the thieves.
