10 cases of dengue fever confirmed on Big Island

The state Department of Health has confirmed 10 cases of dengue fever on the Big Island.

“In the coming days I anticipate the case count will increase,” state epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Park said. “What’s happening now is we clearly have pockets of (infected) mosquitoes that have been transmitting dengue.

Kapahulu road, stores closed over bomb threat

Kapahulu Avenue near Campbell Avenue was closed for hours Thursday while police investigated a bomb threat and attempted bank robbery. The incident began at about 1 p.m. when a man walked into the Bank of Hawaii on Kalakaua Avenue and alluded to having a bomb while trying to rob the bank, police said.
