Cops: Homeless man breaks into residence to get warm

STAMFORD — City police arrested a homeless man on a burglary charge early Wednesday morning after he allegedly entered a residence to get warm.

Stamford Police Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said officers responded at about 12:50 a.m. to a residence in the 300 block of Sound View Avenue after the homeowner reported hearing someone in the residence.

Pinto said the man reported hearing a noise downstairs and went down to see what it was. That’s when he heard someone in the kitchen cough and ran back upstairs to notify authorities.

 

Police: Search warrant leads to drug arrest

STAMFORD - Police arrested a local man Tuesday afternoon on a warrant charging him with various drug-related offenses.

Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin said officers initiated an investigation of Stacey L. Sawyer, 31, a little more than two weeks ago after receiving information that he was selling drugs from his Spruce Street residence.

Conklin said investigators with the Narcotics and Organized Crime divisions obtained a search warrant for the apartment and executed that search on Dec. 9.

 

Stamford police intercept drug deal, arrest two Bridgeport men

STAMFORD - After receiving information of an alleged impending drug deal, city police arrested two suspects and charges are pending against a third.

Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin said officers received information that Raymond Delgado, 25, of Bridgeport, was planning to make a drug sale Tuesday evening on Henry Street. A description of the vehicle Delgado would be driving was also given, he said.

Investigators with the Narcotics and Organized Crime divisions set up in the area, Conklin said, and waited for the vehicle to arrive.

 

Police investigating two separate residential burglaries

STAMFORD - Police are investigating reports of two residential burglaries that occurred Tuesday but are not believed to be related.

Stamford Police Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said the first burglary was reported just before 11 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment in the 1000 block of Bedford Street.

Pinto said a woman reported that someone rang her doorbell, but since she was not expecting anyone she did not answer the door.

“About five minutes later, the woman came downstairs into her kitchen and saw someone climbing through her kitchen window,” Pinto said.

 

State police release 2017 Christmas enforcement stats

There were far fewer moving violations and DUI arrests this Christmas weekend than last year, according to State Police statistics released Tuesday morning.

State Police, which bumps up enforcement efforts over the holiday, saw 777 moving violations from midnight Dec. 22 to the morning of Dec. 26. Of those violations, 347 were for speeding infractions and 11 were for seat belt infractions. Other violations included unsafe lane change and cell phone usage.

Over the same span last year, police logged 1,586 moving violations, of which speeding made up 579.

 

Chimney fire destroys house on Christmas night

STAMFORD — A chimney fire destroyed a home Sunday night on Old N. Stamford Road, according to the Stamford Fire Department.

The fire department said firefighters from both the Stamford and Belltown stations responded at about 9:45 p.m. to a single family home at 114 Old N. Stamford Road.

When they arrived, firefighters found that the fire, which had reportedly started in the residence’s chimney, had spread to the home’s attic.

Firefighters ventilated the attic space through the residence’s roof and the blaze was extinguished by 10:45 p.m. No injuries were reported.

 

Stamford EMT course begins next week

Stamford EMS is offering an emergency medical technician training course beginning Jan. 3. The program is a first step for anyone who wants to become a professional EMT or be better prepared in an emergency.

“This is a required course for any person seeking to become a state certified emergency medical technician.

The wintery mix forecast for Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London overnight Christmas Eve, was largely rain, turning over to flurries by daybreak followed by clear skies.

As of 6 a.m. Christmas morning, there was a coating along the shoreline from Greenwich to New Haven, with freezing rain in Meriden, and rain turning over to snow in Oxford.

Oxford was left with about an inch of snow on the ground.

In Danbury, meanwhile, close to two inches of snow had fallen.
