MIAMI — This is one you could have seen coming from miles away, without even the need for a closeup of the Dwyane Wade statue that now sits on the front steps of Kaseya Center. Charles Barkley does not approve. A lighthearted — although, at times, heavy handed — critic of the Miami Heat over the years, Barkley could not help himself when it came to a Tuesday night discussion of the statue unveiled on Sunday, offering his comments on “Inside the NBA” on TNT, the same network that once featured Wade as a host. Barkley chimed in after host Ernie Johnson opened the conversation about the Heat’s first-ever such tribute. “In one of the weirdest coincidences of all time, we’ve all dressed as Dwyane Wade on Halloween,” Johnson said, an inference that the panel — which also included former NBA players Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith — bore as much as resemblance to Wade as the face of the bronze statue.
