The world’s first corporate agreement to purchase nuclear energy from small modular reactors has been signed by Google. The small modular reactors (SMR) will be developed by California-based Kairos Power. The company will develop, construct, and operate a series of advanced reactor plants and sell energy, ancillary services, and environmental attributes to the technology giant. The plants will be sited in “relevant service territories to supply clean electricity to Google data centers, with the first deployment by 2030 to support Google’s 24/7 carbon-free energy and net zero goals.” The deal means up to 500 MW of new 24/7 carbon-free power will be provided to U.

Apple researchers have published a study detailing key limitations in LLMs, or large language models, from major AI labs like OpenAI. The study, worked on by scientists from the tech giant and published this month, reveals a new benchmark used to evaluate LLMs’ mathematical reasoning skills. That benchmark has highlighted limitations in some of the world’s top LLMs, including OpenAI’s 4o and o1 models. Specifically, the paper found that changing the wording of questions or adding unrelated phrases could drastically change the results.

Cryptocurrency assets worth $890,000 have been seized from the wallets of people who have failed to pay local taxes in a South Korean province. In North Gyeongsang where a new campaign has been set up to collect local tax arrears, with a target set of reaching $136 million by the end of the year. A local publisher, called Daekyung Ilbo, writes that the province and its 22 cities and counties will entered a two-month period of collecting these arrears which will run until December 13. According to the newspaper, the area has collected 1.2 billion won in virtual currency (roughly $889,300 USD), 500 million won in court deposits ($367,620 USD), and 500 million won in financial assets. This intense crackdown could see more money and assets seized as the campaign gathers pace. Tax arrears group formed in South Korea to seize crypto assets The operation has been run by a network of ‘Local Tax Arrears Organization Group’ which is headed by local government leaders and staffed by tax officials to carry out systematic collections. The article, translated into English, says people in arrears of more than 30 million won (just over $22,000 USD) could see a request for a ban on departure from the country by the Ministry of Justice. This latest seizing and plans for more come after another South Korean region announced it would be doing intensive collection activities back in April.

An intrepid IT engineer in the UK is digging through trash to find a lost hard drive with a discarded Bitcoin fortune on it. James Howells, based in Newport, Wales, is suing the local council over a claim of £495 million ($524 million) in damages. That’s the peak value of his lost Bitcoin, lost on a hard drive that was discarded in August 2013. Howells’ then-partner accidentally threw the valuable hard drive away, at a time when the coins were trading for around $130.

There is a great deal of confusion around what, where, and with who you can play the new FPS shooter Delta Force at the moment. Is it out, is it not out and can you play it on a console? Well to clear at least some of it up, the game is not out fully yet and has been released currently as a PC-only demo as part of Steam Next Fest, the twice-yearly showcase of upcoming PC games. Is Delta Force coming to PS5 and Xbox? We have had confirmation that Delta Force will be coming to multiple platforms other than PC when the devs recently said, “The game will be available on PS4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Steam, Epic, iOS, and Android platforms”. Delta Force was also shown off as a PS4 and PS5 trailer at Summer Game Fest earlier in the year so it is definitely incoming, as they say in the military. When is Delta Force out on PS5?
