The Internet Archive is reeling after its Wayback Machine was hit by a massive cyber attack, exposing 31 million users.  The vast data breach occurred after the hackers exploited the website, obtaining a user authentication database containing an array of user details and credentials.  An illicit JavaScript pop-up appeared on the Internet Archive on Wednesday, with the hackers boasting that a major incident had taken place.  “Have you ever felt like the Internet Archive runs on sticks and is constantly on the verge of suffering a catastrophic security breach?

Meta AI’s gradual rollout will now reach an additional 21 places around the world, with support to be added for more languages. It was in July 2024 when the technology giant first announced it would be expanding its in-app assistant into new countries. At the time, this reached Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and more, but continued to miss out on other key areas. This week  the chatbot will have a further push into new places, with the company writing in an updated news release that they have a plan to open up “access to Meta AI in more countries and languages throughout the rest of the year.” On Wednesday (October 9) the assistant was made accessible in the United Kingdom, Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay, and the Philippines.

OpenAI says it has disrupted more than 20 operations and deceptive networks to prevent threat actors in the year of global elections. In an October report, the company behind ChatGPT said they “know it is particularly important to build robust, multi-layered defenses against state-linked cuber actors and covert influence operations that may attempt to use our models in furtherance of deceptive campaigns on social media and other internet platforms.” Threat actors are a group of people who intentionally cause harm in the cyber sphere. Since May, the company has continued to build new AI-powered tools that help them to detect and dissect potentially harmful activity. While threat actors have been noted, the AI research firm hasn’t seen “evidence of this leading to meaningful breakthroughs in their ability to create substantially new malware or build viral audiences.” OpenAI has disrupted activity that generated social media content about the elections in the United States, Rwanda, India, and the European Union. OpenAI remains on ‘high alert’ to detect and disrupt threat actors Since the beginning of the year, four separate networks that included at least some degree of election-related content have been disrupted.

Zoom has this week (October 9) unveiled its suite of AI-focused innovations as it aims to enhance productivity and transform the way people work. The announcement was shared at its Zoomtopia 2024 event, with the Zoom AI Companion 2.0 and Zoom Tasks being two of the biggest change-ups to the video call-focused platform. The original AI Companion was launched in 2023, but it has now been upgraded with new capabilities.

Stake is one of three companies to be added to the approved list of betting operators by the Brazilian government during a time of transition in the country. Stake Brazil Ltd joins Hiper Bet and LBBR in the list of 96 operators approved at the federal level after various issues in the authorization process were resolved. With the brand set to launch iGaming offerings to players in Brazil, an office will be opened in Sao Paulo headed by a country manager, replicating the approach taken in other Latin American nations.  In seeking approval for expansion, Stake outlined its existing relationships in Brazil including partnerships with Serie A club Juventude and the UFC, especially with fighters such as Alex Pereira and Alexandre Pantoja. Outside of Brazil, the UFC named Stake as its official sponsor partner in Asia, while the established crypto casino and sportsbook platform is also a principal partner of the English Premier League soccer club, Everton FC. The company also has a partnership with Canadian rapper Drake, generating a lot of publicity around his large wagers. All operators were required to apply for a license As part of the shake-up of the gambling infrastructure in Brazil, companies had until September 30 to submit their applications for a federal betting license or face prohibition from the full market when it relaunches on January 1, 2025. OpenAI has requested the dismissal of Elon Musk’s federal lawsuit against the company, accusing it of being a harassment effort. The ChatGPT company filed a motion for dismissal before a California federal court on Tuesday (October 8) which is the latest in the back-and-forth between the founders. This all started when Elon Musk first sued OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman in Spring of this year accusing the company of deviating from their foundational mission of creating artificial intelligence to benefit humanity.
