Trump's $4.8 trillion budget proposal revisits rejected cuts to Medicaid, farm subsidies

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump unveiled a $4.8 trillion election year budget plan on Monday that recycles previously rejected cuts to domestic programs like food stamps and Medicaid to promise a balanced budget in 15 years — all while leaving Social Security and Medicare benefits untouched. Trump’s fiscal 2021 plan promises the government's deficit will crest above $1 trillion only for the current budget year before steadily decreasing to more manageable levels, relying on optimistic economic projections, lower interest costs, scaled-back overseas military operations and proposed cuts to agency budgets that run counter to two previous budget deals signed by Trump. The budget “sets the course for a future of continued American dominance and prosperity,” Trump said in a message accompanying the document. “There is optimism that was not here before 63 million Americans asked me to work for them and drain the swamp,” Trump said.

J. — The Miami Dolphins needed two things to happen to earn their third consecutive playoff berth: win their finale against the New York Jets and have Denver lose to Kansas City. Neither happened. Denver won, 38-0, before the Dolphins’ game was over. It doesn’t matter. The Dolphins’ 32-20 loss against the New York Jets (5-12) still goes down as one of the most embarrassing, humiliating and shameful losses in the Mike McDaniel era. And that’s not a short list. The Dolphins (8-9) ended the season with a whimper, finishing 3-6 on the road, 1-4 against playoff teams and 7-5 against non-playoff teams. The 2024 season will go down as a complete failure. Here are some more takeaways from Sunday’s game:  Snoop has rough game, might not be backup answer Quarterback Tyler “Snoop” Huntley came up short in the Dolphins’ biggest game of the season with four fumbles and two interceptions, making you wonder whether he’s successfully completed his audition for 2025 backup quarterback. The Dolphins needed leadership and stability at quarterback and didn’t get anything close to that.
