K-Mets sweep Jays, move into wild-card tie

KINGSPORT — Five pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout to keep Kingsport in the thick of the Appalachian League playoff race. Starter Jordany Ventura threw four innings of no-hit ball and the K-Mets took a 3-0 win over Bluefield on Sunday at Hunter Wright Stadium. On the heels of the three-game sweep of the Blue Jays (30-34), the K-Mets (33-32) are a half-game behind West Division-leading Bristol in the standings and tied with Johnson City in the wild-card race. Hector Rodriguez (3-2) gave up a hit and two walks over two innings in notching the win. Luis Silva and Jender DeJesus each threw an inning before Reyson Santos came on to close and picked up his eighth save of the season. OPPORTUNISTIC K-METS The strong arms meant the K-Mets didn’t need much offense, getting two runs in the third inning and one in the seventh. In the third with the bases loaded, Andres Regnault and Scott Ota were hit by pitches on back-to-back plate appearances.
