Register your youngsters now for the Sept. 7 Church Hill Trout Rodeo

CHURCH HILL — The Church Hill Parks and Recreation Department is asking parents to register their youngsters early for the annual Church Hill Trout Rodeo, which takes place the morning of Sept. 7 at Jaycees Park. Registration will be available the morning of the event, but pre-registration will help reduce the wait. Every year approximately 500 “eating size” trout are dumped into Alexander Creek at Jaycees Park, which will be dammed at intervals to trap the fish. It’s not as easy as shooting fish in a barrel, but having so many fish confined to such a small area does increase the odds for young anglers. All children ages 4-16 can participate in the Trout Rodeo, and they don’t have to be Church Hill residents. The age divisions are: 4-7, 8-11, and 12-16. One trophy will be awarded in each age division for the child who catches the first fish and the first child to catch the limit of three. An overall trophy will be given to the child who catches the largest fish of the day. There will also be a chance for the children to win a new bicycle. Free doughnuts and drinks will be provided. Jaycees Park is located at 455 N.
