ROGERSVILLE — A Hawkins County Jail escapee who was tricked by former coworkers who said they’d bring him breakfast but sent him police instead was sentenced last week to 11 years total in three separate cases. Aaron Lee Morelock, 35, 414 Grassy Creek Road, Rogersville, was sentenced in Hawkins County Criminal Court on June 7 to 10 years, 11 months and 29 days at 30 percent; and $5,885 in fines and fees in exchange for guilty pleas to felony escape, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule III narcotics, theft over $2,500, and assault. On May 23, 2018, Morelock and three other inmates escaped by pulling back the fence in the exercise yard. At the time, Morelock was being held on multiple charges, including felony theft, gun possession, meth trafficking and four probation violations. Morelock hid out all night in a vacant house on Stevens Drive in Rogersville, where he had previously been employed by the contractor performing the renovation. When the contractor arrived at the residence on the morning of May 24, he was surprised to find Morelock hiding out there. Morelock’s former coworkers offered to go buy his breakfast and bring it back. While they were gone, they contacted Hawkins County Central Dispatch and reported Morelock’s whereabouts, after which the Rogersville Police Department and Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office surrounded the house, and Morelock quickly surrendered without resistance. The escape alone netted two years, while the weapon charged added eight years. Attack with laundry detergent jug Aaron Anthony Lee, 27, 859 Beech Grove Road, Rogersville, was sentenced to 360 days in jail, four years of supervised probation, and ordered to pay $5,492 in fines and fees for aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, criminal trespass, evading arrest, driving on a revoked license, no insurance, and light law violation.
