SWV Notes: Gate City's Ervin rethinking commitment to Wofford

Gate City senior Zac Ervin committed in August to continue his collegiate basketball career at Wofford. Now, the 6-5 shooting guard is not so sure. “I’m going to take some time, not too much time. But some, before making a decision,” Ervin said earlier this week about his college choice. Ervin’s possible change of heart comes after coach Mike Young left Wofford to take the coaching position at Virginia Tech following the exit of Hokies coach Buzz Williams. After leading Tech to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament, Williams resigned to take the head coaching position at Texas A&M. Williams’ departure left the door open for Young, an Emory & Henry graduate and former assistant coach, to step in and take over the Hokies’ program. Young was hired after leading Wofford to the Southern Conference championship and its own appearance in the NCAA tourney. “It was an opportunity that was right for him and his family and really one that he just couldn’t pass up,” Ervin said of Young taking the job at Tech.
