Suspicious package deliveries lead to marijuana, cocaine charges against Elgin man

An Elgin man remained in jail Wednesday evening following a week-long sheriff's office investigation into suspicious packages being delivered to a Cary home. On Monday, investigators followed a vehicle from Cary to an Elgin home, where they witnessed another suspicious delivery, similar to those reported in Cary, according to a news release. Police searched the home and seized $7,014 cash, 14 pounds of marijuana, 21 pounds of marijuana edibles; one pound of marijuana wax, 11 grams of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia, according to the release. The drugs were estimated to be valued at $65,000. Officers arrested 22-year-old Bradley Rantz, of the 800 block of Logan Avenue, Elgin, and took him to the Kane County Jail, where he remained Wednesday evening, according to the release. Two other adults and a juvenile were released from the scene, the release stated. Rantz is charged with delivery of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. A conviction of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver or delivery of a controlled substance could land Rantz four to 15 years in prison. A judge ordered Rantz to surrender any firearms he might own.
