Thanks to Emancipation Day, the chronically late will have extra time to file their federal taxes before the new deadline on April 18. Normally the deadline to file taxes would land on April 15, but government workers in the District of Columbia, where the Internal Revenue Service’s headquarters are located, will have the day off because of Emancipation Day.
