The struggle is real for Savannah’s inner-city schools, but it is starting to get a little less intense. District officials say the five inner-city schools highlighted for takeover by Gov. Nathan Deal’s proposed state-run Opportunity School District are on track to meet or exceed academic growth requirements. “Right now, the schools that the governor identified for his Opportunity District are on target to get off the list based on 3 percent growth requirement,” said Vallerie Cave, Savannah-Chatham’s interim director for elementary and K8 schools.
