Record food haul for local postal workers

ROGERSVILLE — Hawkins County’s mail carriers returned to their post office earlier this month with a record amount of donated food. One day a year, letter carriers, both city and rural, pick up bags of food from the homes on their routes to help local food pantries meet local hunger needs within their region.Of One Accord ministry director Sheldon Livesay said this year’s haul from mail carriers to benefit his food pantry was a record breaker.“From all appearances, the “Stamp Out Hunger” food-drive sponsored by the letter carriers of our nation’s post offices will reach records like was seen in Rogersville and Surgoinsville,” Livesay said.
