Erich Cordero traveled 5,738 miles from his Pompano Beach home to Saransk, Russia, last weekend to chase his dream, but a nagging injury flared up and got in his way. Cordero, a former Cuban racewalker who is now competing for the United States after a 12-year layoff, was forced to quit the 50-kilometer race at the midway point of the IAAF World Racewalking Cup on Sunday because of pain in his chest, left shoulder and back.
