Young Leaders of United Way of Lake County award $15,218 in grants to local nonprofit agency programs

The Young Leaders of United Way of Lake County program last week awarded $15,218 in grants to local nonprofits during its 5th Annual Golf Outing Fundraiser at Black Brook Golf Course in Mentor.The sold-out event drew a record 144 participants, said Young Leaders' staff lead Jodi Matsko.

The Democratic challenger for the U.S. House of Representatives 14th District seat is hosting a health care town hall Sept. 10 in Kirtland. The event, dubbed a "town hall and listening session" begins at 7 p.m. in the Kirtland Senior Center, 7900 Euclid Chardon Road.

 

Three Lake County Officers recognized for heroic actions

Painesville police officer Ryan Cueni, Mentor Detective Steven Ondercin and Mentor Patrolman Jason Myers were recognized for heroic efforts by the Lake County Chiefs of Police Association on Sept. 5.Cueni was nominated for the award following a domestic incident he responded to on Feb.

The FARMAFARE celebration of local foods is one of the nicest dining events of the harvest season. Willowick Police adding pink patch for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Willowick residents may notice something different about the city's police officers in October. That's because the department plans to go pink. Officers will be replacing the official department patch normally worn on their uniform sleeve with a pink one to show support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

 

Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation holding clam bake

The Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation clam bake presented by Griffin Technology Group will be held Sept. 19 at Mentor Beach Park. This event will help both organizations raise money for student scholarships and other educational programs, according to a news release.The ticket price of $40 per person includes manhattan clam chowder, #xbd; chicken, 12 top neck clams, sweet potato, sweet corn, coleslaw, rolls, one alcoholic drink ticket and soft drinks/water.
