Steve Powell — a figure in the disappearance of his daughter-in-law, Susan Powell, from her home in West Valley City — was released Tuesday from prison in Washington state after serving about three years in jail and prison for a child pornography conviction.
Jeremy Barclay, a spokesman for the Washington Department of Corrections, confirmed that Powell was released from a prison in Monroe, Wash. Barclay said Powell, 67, will serve another two years on parole.

Last of three men charged in connection with 1991 stabbing death in Salt Lake City has been arrested

The last of three men charged with murder in a stabbing 26 years ago at a community dance in Salt Lake City has been arrested.
Viengkeo Sundara, 49, was charged in June 2016 in 3rd District Court with first-degree felony murder in the 1991 stabbing death of 25-year-old Youthaloth Oudanonh.
Sundara was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on Friday and made an initial court appearance on Tuesday.

 

Salt Lake County Council members want the state auditor to look into Mountain Accord

After a judge ruled Monday that the Mountain Accord was a public body subject to the state’s Open and Public Meetings Act, several Salt Lake County Council members plan to ask the state auditor for “a full accounting” of the entity.

After weeks of tug of war over the GOP bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, Utah Sen. Mike Lee has offered his ultimatum: add an amendment to give insurance companies more flexibility in offering cheaper and less comprehensive plans or count his vote as a “no.”

Union sues to block online access to Utah teacher discipline cases

Utah’s largest teachers union is suing the state school board over a new website that allows the public to search a database of disciplinary actions taken against educators.
