Oregon commission to vote on gillnet ban

PORTLAND — The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission is scheduled to vote on a proposal to ban commercial fishing with gillnets on the main stem of the lower Columbia River. The commission will hear public testimony before voting on Friday in Portland.

 

Woman dies in rollover crash

JUNCTION CITY — A young woman was killed Thursday night in a one-vehicle rollover crash that left a stretch of River Road just south of here strewn with debris. “From the looks of everything on the road, it appears she was headed north,” Lane County Sheriff’s Sgt.

Siuslaw Bank has acquired Sterling Bank’s Oakridge branch at 48257 E. First St. The newly acquired Sterling office will become the new home of Siuslaw Bank in Oakridge, Siuslaw CEO Johan Mehlum said.

 

States Industries acquires California firm

Eugene-based States Industries, a manufacturer of hardwood plywood and specialty panel products, has acquired California based Drawer Box Specialties. DBS began operations in 1987 and is the industry leader in manufacturing drawer boxes, drawer storage systems, shelving units and specialty accessories, according to a statement from States Industries.

 

Pickup driver convicted in attempted-murder case

A Lane County jury this afternoon convicted Eugene resident Francisco “Frank” Ochoa of attempted murder, first degree assault, and unlawfully using his pickup truck as a deadly weapon when he struck and seriously injured his wife’s fitness instructor as the man walked his dog March 14.

 

Police release sketch of would-be kidnapper

Eugene police have released an artist’s sketch of the man being sought in the attempted abduction of a student a local school on Monday. The suspect is described as a white male, age 17 or 18 and 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall.

 

Woman sentenced in Sutton embezzlement

A 38-year-old Springfield woman was sentenced Thursday to more than three years in prison for embezzling at least $1,000 on 10 different occasions from her employer, George Sutton RV, between September 2010 and May 2011.

 

Jury rejects Harrisburg school bullying claims

A federal jury took less than an hour Wednesday to rule in favor of the Harrisburg School District in a lawsuit alleging the district negligently failed to protect a former middle school student from bullying and harassment in 2010.

Ex-Oregon corrections officer convicted in Salem

SALEM — A man who worked as an Oregon Department of Corrections officer was found guilty Wednesday in Salem of shooting at two police officers. Michael Wilson Yann was taken into custody in Marion County Circuit Court.
