Minimum wage workers in Oregon get a pay hike on Jan. 1

Minimum wage workers in Oregon will start the year with a little more money in their pockets thanks to a programmed increase in the state’s base pay. The minimum wage increases by 15 cents an hour to $8.95 as of Tuesday.

Missing Springfield couple found

Searchers have tracked down a Springfield couple who had been missing since last Friday. Leslie and Juanita McAdams were found alive today in the Coburg Hills area, Lane County sheriff’s search and rescue coordinator John Miller said. Juanita McAdams, 77, was found this morning.

A pair of Occupy Eugene members face Jan. 10 court dates after they disregarded an order to leave a public plaza outside the Federal Building in downtown Eugene, the site of recent political demonstrations.

 

Egan Warming Centers open tonight

The Egan Warming Centers — which offer sleeping space to homeless people in Lane County — will be open tonight, when temperatures are forecast to drop into the upper 20s. The centers may again open Tuesday and Wednesday nights, according to the program’s website.

 

Two hospitalized in Coos County wreck

NORTH BEND — Two men were hospitalized this morning after a vehicle overturned on a road north of North Bend, Coos County sheriff’s officials said. Deputies and medics responded to the wreck on North Bay Road at 1:07 a.m. They found the vehicle’s two occupants trapped inside the vehicle.

 

NFL Eagles fire Andy Reid, expected to pursue Oregon’s Chip Kelly

PHILADELPHIA — Andy Reid has been fired after 14 seasons coaching the Philadelphia Eagles. Oregon football coach Chip Kelly is widely believed to be among the candidates the Eagles are likely to pursue. The Eagles made the announcement Monday.

PENDLETON — A tour bus headed for Canada careened through a guardrail along an icy Oregon highway and several hundred feet down a steep embankment Sunday, killing nine people and injuring more than 20 others, authorities said. The charter bus carrying about 40 people lost control around 10:30 a.m.

 

Springfield couple reported missing

SPRINGFIELD — An older couple was reported missing on Sunday by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office. Leslie McAdams, 76, and his wife, Juanita McAdams, 77, were last seen about 5 p.m.
