A man arrested Friday for breaking into a home on the 400 block of FM 1413 in Dayton allegedly hid in a closet for hours while the family went about their normal activities, according to an account from the homeowner and corroborated by the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. "We were in the house having fun, cooking and eating, and had no idea a stranger was in my son's closet," said Tara Trevino-Pasket. "My son is now afraid to sleep in his own bedroom." It was an ordinary water leak that should have been the first clue that something was wrong.

Sitting outside her motorhome at Indian Springs Campground and RV Park in Kountze, one word came to Lyska Shaffer's mind while reflecting on 85 years of life: Perfect. "I think I've pretty much lived a perfect life," Shaffer said. "I'd do it all over again." Her chickens fled to the highest parts of the roosts, the ducks struggled to keep their head above the strong current of water pouring out of Pine Island Bayou, and her goats and pigs took refuge on stacks of pallets and hay, barely above the water.
