Police say a 20-year-old man is in jail on several charges after he ran a stop sign in Savannah on Wednesday afternoon, hitting and killing a local woman, and then attempting to run from the scene. Kareem Felder is charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving and related charges in the wreck that took the life of 69-year-old Bernitha Vaughn. Not many details have been publicly released about the events leading up to the crash or the exact extent of involvement by local law enforcement. Savannah-Chatham Police Chief Joseph Lumpkin said Felder was being surveilled by officers just before the fatal wreck.
