Thiessen: Trump conceals notes because he’s surrounded by leakers

The Washington Post’s report that President Trump “has gone to extraordinary lengths to conceal details of his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin” — including taking away an interpreter’s notes and instructing the person not to discuss what was said even with senior officials of his administration — has raised hackles in Washington. Some have gone so far as to suggest this is evidence that the president is a secret Russian asset.

Barreca: The journey of aging is surprising

To be young is to be arrogant. I know this not only from personal experience but also from research.
Next week, I’ll turn 62. An English professor by trade, I’m a reader of books and a watcher of movies by vocation. After a lifetime of examining great stories, I know this much is true: Old people in film and literature aren’t easy to like, unless they’re truly evil or fantastically warped.

Harrop: Americans are the real suckers on drug prices

Drugmakers rang in the new year by raising prices on hundreds of products — American prices, that is. Americans focused on the celebrations weren’t paying attention.
Allergan led the parade, hiking its prices by 10 percent on more than two dozen drugs. But note this: It didn’t raise the price of Botox, the anti-wrinkle treatment. Why? Jayne: Just accept it, we white men are not the oppressed ones

I’m just not that aggrieved.
Goodness knows, I’ve tried, doing all I can to convince myself that the world is conspiring against me. I’ve watched Fox News. I’ve read the “men’s rights” thread on Reddit. I’ve even seen a syndicated columnist who told me, “There’s a war on men in America today.”
Oooo, scary. But I’m just not that aggrieved.

‘Baby Shark’ company to expand

“Baby Shark (Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo)” is the YouTube sensation that’s been viewed more than 2 billion times and made the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a second-straight week. The jingle has also become such an earworm that late-night-show host Jimmy Kimmel proposed throwing those responsible in jail for life.

In Our View: End the Shutdown

As the government shutdown leaks into its fifth week, the impact continues to mount.
Nearly 1 million federal employees and contractors are going without paychecks — although thousands have been called back to work without pay to help the government keep functioning. President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a bill ensuring that furloughed workers will receive back pay once the shutdown ends.
