U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown will open a Jacksonville campaign office this weekend, her team announced online Wednesday.
The office will be at 1410 Edgewood Ave. W., a block west of Lem Turner Road in a former supermarket now owned by a church.

Mayor Lenny Curry, other area politicos rally support for Donald Trump in Jacksonville

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry spoke only briefly as the master of ceremonies for the rally supporting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Wednesday, but said the businessman “will flip the status quo upside down and that is why you are here tonight.”
Curry, who was there with his wife and three children, joined other state and local leaders supporting Trump during a packed rally headlined by the Republican nominee at Veterans Memorial Arena.

Jacksonville's Downtown Vision Inc. reports commercial occupancy rates increase, residential units up

Commercial and residential activity in downtown Jacksonville is on the upswing according to a summary provided by Downtown Vision Inc. analyzing the 18 months prior to the end of 2015.
The report published Tuesday shows occupancy rates of commercial properties in downtown climbed to 81.4 percent in the past year and a half. The report says that’s the highest level since 2007. The lowest commercial occupancy rate was 75.1 percent in 2010.

 

Reggie Fullwood trial set for Oct. 11 start

State Rep. Reggie Fullwood’s trial on wire fraud and tax charges will start Oct. 11, a federal judge said Wednesday.
The trial is expected to take about a week. That means that if Fullwood won the Aug. 30 Democratic primary, he and his Republican challenger would have about three weeks of campaigning time after the verdict to prepare for the Nov. 8 general election.

Times-Union's coverage of Amelia Island Concours wins gold in International Automotive Media Competition

The Florida Times-Union won a Gold Medallion for multimedia coverage of the 2015 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in the 25th annual International Automotive Media Competition on Sunday.
The award was presented in the “Cross Media” division of the “Concours Event” category, and came as the competition also announced its latest Lifetime Achievement Award, going to “The Dean of Motor City Auto Writers,” Tony Swan.

 

TEDxJacksonville announces 2016 speakers

With a theme of “Fear Less” this year’s TEDxJacksonville hopes to inspire attendees to do something bold and brave.
The 12 speakers at this year’s event will offer diverse perspectives on media, science and life, said executive producer Sabeen Perwaiz.
On Oct. 22, in between speakers, tents will line Forsyth Street outside the Florida Theatre so people can grab a bite to eat from local vendors and mingle with each other and local businesses.
The idea is to maximize interaction.
