EF-1 tornado with winds up to 100 mph leaves damage in Yulee area

YULEE, Fla.— An EF-1 tornado flipped over trailers and semis in the Yulee area with winds at nearly 100 mph Thursday afternoon.
A Tornado Warning was briefly issued just after 2 p.m. for Nassau and Camden counties, but the tornado was on the ground from 1:40 to 1:57 p.m. - that's 17 minutes.
At its widest, the tornado was 600 feet across - and it drove a 4.25-mile path through the area.
The Nassau County Sheriff's Office tells us they had semis blown over along State Road 200 and Christian Way.

Traffic alert: Union Street exits shut this weekend for FDOT project

Jacksonville’s Union Street ramp at Kings Road shuts down at 9 a.m. Friday, for drainage work, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
And the Interstate 95’s southbound Union Street exit (353B) will also close at 6 a.m. on Saturday as the project continues, with both ramps expected to reopen at about 5 a.m. Sunday, transportation officials said.

The “Under the Oaks” Music Jam returns Sunday to Walter Jones Historical Park at 11964 Mandarin Road.
Musicians who play a traditional acoustic instrument and want to play with others can join in the jam session from 2 to 4 p.m. under the old live oaks in front of the park museum. The event is free to musicians and audience members, while artists are invited to join in. But bring your own chair and water.

Kaman Aerosystems lays off small portion of workers at Jacksonville facility

Kaman Aerosystems is laying off a small portion of its workforce at its aerospace parts manufacturing facility on Jacksonville’s Northside.
Kaman Human Resources Director Alex Patton confirmed Thursday that the company is in the process of informing some employees that they’ll be laid off, though he declined to provide a number of workers affected. He said a company official would likely issue a statement, though no such statement was provided by late Thursday afternoon.
