I just received a nice surprise in my email today. It's an email from Netflix telling me that it's now possible for me to stream movies through my Nintendo Wii console. They're sending me a CD this Friday that would allow me to do that. Netflix has a streaming feature called "Instant Watch" that lets you stream movies and TV shows. Their selection is pretty good. They have some new releases and thousands of older films and TV Shows. I tend to use this feature to watch documentaries, foreign films, and catch up on old TV Shows.
This is all great news to me because I own a Wii that's only being used when my wife and I (more like just my wife) are babysitting our nieces and nephews. I've been streaming through my ASUS Eee netbook. This new Netflix feature saves me the hassle of hooking it up to my TV each time I want to stream a movie because my Wii's already hooked up and ready to go.
I've always liked Netflix's streaming feature. I think they're the first company to get it right. Kudos to them for having the foresight to do an online streaming service and not be too attached to physical media. The resolution from the streams are pretty good, especially if you're just watching documentaries and TV shows. For current releases, especially effects-heavy blockbusters, I prefer to watch them on Bluray.
