Auburn Man’s Bromeliads Are Out Of This World

Collector of rarities loves bromeliads for their rainbow colors; see them this weekend at Sacramento show and sale. Chet Blackburn with examines a Vriesea hybrid bromeliad. He has an amazing collection at his Auburn home including hundreds that he's preparing for the Sacramento Bromeliad and Carnivorous Plant Show. A crane fly carcass remains in a Venus flytrap, a carnivorous plant that Chet Blackburn tends to in his collection. Blackburn points to an American pitcher plant (Sarracenia flava) at his home in Auburn earlier this month. Light glistens on the sticky nectar on tentacles of a Cape Sundew (Drosera capensis) in Blackburn’s garden.
