More than 10 percent of Savannah’s most violent offenders are off the streets and behind bars as the result of a six-week national U.S. Marshal Service enforcement initiative to crack down on crime. Savannah was one of 12 focus cities in Operation Violent Reduction, which sought to reduce crime rates across the country by lowering the number of violent offenders freely walking the streets.
