Wise County Court Shoots Down Felon's Gun Petition

WISE — A convicted felon’s petition to possess firearms was shot down Wednesday in Wise County Circuit Court, Commonwealth’s Attorney Chuck Slemp reported. Slemp said the petition was filed by Floyd Mack Monroe Smith, 29, of Coeburn, after Gov. Terry McAuliffe last year restored civil rights — including the right to vote, the governor’s primary goal — to tens of thousands of convicted felons in Virginia. Slemp said Smith was convicted in 2009 of eight felonies including breaking and entering, grand larceny, conspiracy and delivery of a firearm to a prisoner.
