When Addison Williams was shifted to co-defensive coordinator following Ted Roof‘s hiring as UCF’s defensive coordinator in December, he used the time to self-evaluate. His first season as the team’s defensive coordinator in 2023 didn’t go as he had hoped, with the Knights struggling to finish games. The run defense was terrible as UCF finished at the bottom of the Big 12. But sometimes life has a way of offering second chances. That moment came last week when coach Gus Malzahn announced he’d fired Roof after eight games and promoted Williams as UCF’s defensive coordinator. “We were shocked, but we love Coach Addi and just rallied behind him,” said fifth-year defensive tackle Ricky Barber.
