Daily Journal Although the severe weather threat decreased throughout the day on Thursday, many schools across the Northeast Mississippi region were dismissed early and canceled after-school activities. Schools in the Tupelo Public School District dismissed 30 minutes early, and all schools in the Lee County School District were dismissed at 2:15 p.m. According to an alert from Lee County Schools, the district decided to dismiss early despite the diminishing threat due to very windy conditions “to make sure school buses and our students are safe and off the roads,” as high winds remained in the forecast. High winds did cause a house trailer to be overturned in Monroe County. The trailer was being transported down Highway 8 East near Beeks Road when it overturned at about 8 a.m., according to Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Criss Turnipseed.
