NORTON, VA - Virginia P. Darnell Sams, 90, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Laurels Assisted Living Center in Norton, VA. She was a member of the Lighthouse Family Worship Center in Wise, a devoted Christian, and she loved gardening, bluegrass music, traveling and being with her family and friends. Virginia was a nurse having worked at Parke Ave Hospital in Norton, taught adult reading and retired as the nurse for the Flatwoods Job Corp in Coeburn. She was born to the late, Patrick and Elsie Lawson Darnell in 1928 in Dorchester, VA and she was married to the late, Earl Kenneth Sams. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Marlene Sams Schmitt; great-granddaughter, Shana Heiny; her sisters, Gertrude Bright Wilson and Irene Fultz; and a brother, Ralph Kenneth Darnell. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Melissa Sams Carey and husband Bryce; two grandchildren, Michael Heiny and wife Camille and Kimberly R.
