A Saturday night shooting outside a Florida City apartment complex ended with a 9-year-old dead, police say.
According to Miami-Dade police, which will handle the homicide investigation, a report of gunfire just after 9:30 p.m. brought Florida City police officers to the area of 865 Lucy St., part of the Southpoint Crossing Apartments.
MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins had left tackle Terron Armstead available for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Armstead entered Sunday questionable with a knee injury. He did not practice at all during a short turnaround from the Dolphins’ Monday night win across the country at the Los Angeles Rams.
But the five-time Pro Bowl left tackle was not among inactives announced 90 minutes before the kickoff.
The Dolphins, who ruled out cornerback Kendall Fuller (concussion) early in the week, were also without fullback Alec Ingold.
The Dolphins attempt to build their first win streak since their Christmas Eve victory over the Dallas Cowboys and get to 4-6 against the Raiders, which would be in the thick of the AFC wild-card playoff picture.
For St. Andrew’s senior Alexia Sotomayor, it was the icing on the cake on a truly memorable week.
Sotomayor was the lone female from Broward or Palm Beach County to win a Class 1A state championship as she captured the 100 butterfly with a clocking of 53.65 at the FAST (Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training) facility in Ocala on Friday night.
Earlier in the week, Sotomayor had signed with Arizona State University, and she helped the Scots finish second in the meet with 249 points.
Pine Crest senior Allen Levitis successfully defended his Class 1A state championship on Friday at the FHSAA swimming and diving competition at the FAST (Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training) facility in Ocala on Friday.
Levitis won the state diving title with 535.50 as he improved on his state-winning score of 529.95 from last season.

With the completion of a six-game trip Sunday night against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Heat immediately have to turn around to face the Philadelphia 76ers at Kaseya Center on Monday.
The nonsensical part is that after that back-to-back set, the Heat then are idle for five consecutive days before a home game a week from Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks.
So who’s to blame?
Oddly, Shakira.
Instead of going forward with a pair of concerts scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday at Kaseya Center, plans were changed in October to move shows of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour from arenas to stadiums at future dates, including the Miami stop being relocated to Hard Rock Stadium on June 6.
The Colombian singer posted on social media of the changes, “My production has grown to such a scale, along with the demand for tickets and more shows, that it has exceeded even the most optimistic expectations.
