After several months of research and discussion, public safety officials on Tybee Island have emerged with a recommendation for dealing with the problems created by the annual beach party known as Orange Crush. The city’s public safety committee on Thursday decided to recommend to Mayor Jason Buelterman that Tybee police close certain streets and implement safety checks during Orange Crush weekend, which is unofficially scheduled this year for April 15, 16 and 17. The committee made no recommendation to curb open air alcohol consumption on Tybee, despite a proposal from an ad hoc task force created in the wake of last year’s Orange Crush that such action be taken during certain times of the year. Tybee Councilwoman Wanda Doyle, the chair of the public safety committee, said she’ll make an announcement about the committee’s recommendations at the council’s next meeting on Feb.
