The last time Tybee Island Mayor Jason Buelterman delivered a state of the city address, the city was in the midst of trying to build a new police station to replace the old, crumbling station on the island’s north end. A couple of years have passed since then, and in that time a new, state-of-the-art station has been built, the old one destroyed — the mayor said he took great relish in taking a sledgehammer to the old building — and a number of other city projects have come to fruition. The city has worked over the past dozen years to replace its aging water and sewer lines, Buelterman said at his address Thursday, putting Tybee “light years ahead” of similar cities.
