Daniel Murphy described the first half of his first season in a Rockies uniform as only “fair.” But Friday night, the Rockies’ veteran first baseman played hero, hitting a solo home run in the eighth inning off David Hernandez to lift his team to a 3-2 victory over Cincinnati at Coors Field. It marked Colorado’s first win at home this season when scoring three or fewer runs. It also was Murphy’s first homer at Coors Field in a Rockies uniform and the timing was just about perfect.
