A Chicopee man who was being pursued by state police on Route 91 early this morning was pulled from his burning Ford Mustang by the troopers trying to stop him when the muscle car crashed into a construction site and burst into flames, authorities said.The seriously injured driver, Darryl Whitaker, 54, was rushed to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where state police spokesman David Procopio said he remains under guard and facing outstanding warrant and motor vehicle charges.
