Two honored for outstanding work in district schools

Lisa Fjordbeck and Sherri Townsend share similar attitudes about helping students and their co-workers in the Springfield School District, so it was probably fitting that the two last week were named 2013’s Co-Classified Employees of the Year.

Baby board books awarded to school Students in teacher Karla Alvarado’s Teen Parent classes at Gateways High School recently were awarded a $200 lending library of English and Spanish language baby board books by Families & Books, a committee of the Emerald Empire Reading Council.

Hospital sets free labyrinth walk The monthly Labyrinth Walk will be held at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Labyrinth walks are held in the chapel and are open to all visitors, staff, and patients.

 

Springfield police log March 1-7

Incidents FRIDAY, MARCH 1 Criminal trespass: 10:34 p.m., 2900 block Gateway Street. Mall security said a disorderly woman who appeared intoxicated was refusing to leave a movie theater. Police made an arrest on charges of trespassing and disorderly conduct. Criminal trespass: 4:59 p.m., 200 block Main Street.

 

Leagues honor local hoopsters

The 6A District 1 and Midwestern League all-conference basketball teams were released recently, with several Springfield and Thurston players honored.

 

Millers end dominant era

The Mercedes Russell-era at Springfield officially came to a close on Saturday. It certainly wasn’t the ending many anticipated, with the Millers falling to Midwestern League rival Willamette 48-41 in the OSAA Class 5A state championship game at Matthew Knight Arena.
