At least once a week, I am asked, "What can I do to protect my memory? Should I do word games or subscribe to brain training programs?" The answer is simple. "Yes." If he or she likes word games, I encourage them to continue. If the answer is "No," I ask, "What do you love to do that stimulates your interest?" Because there is little evidence that word games will slow or delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease, I always prescribe regular, moderate intensity exercise.
