A former University of South Alabama student arrested after a woman reported she had been kidnapped, robbed and sexually assaulted on campus has been charged in another case near the university.

With a rope tied around his waist, firemedic Richard Ogle kept his eye on a bottle floating in the Halls Mill Creek on Tuesday night. It drifted with the current, picking up speed near Ogle's destination: the other side of the creek, where a man clung to a small tree in swift and rising water.
