PD: Danbury cops injured in scuffle with suspect

DANBURY — Three police officers suffered minor injuries last week while trying to arrest a Bethel man suspected of breaking into a car. Fermin, 20, of Knolwood Drive, Bethel, was charged with assaulting a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny and two counts of interfering with an officer.

BROOKFIELD — The town’s K-9 dog helped find an endangered teenager after a late-night search in the woods Wednesday, police said. Officers were called to Federal Road, near Silvermine Road, about 11:30 p.m. for a report of a suicidal 17-year-old girl who had just run off into the woods, police said.

 

Officials release cause of death in Southbury homicide

State police detectives from the Western District Major Crime Unit, who took charge of the investigation, determined tha the younger Fitzsimmons killed his father.

Trooper First Class Kelly Grant, a State Police spokeswoman, said Thursday afternoon that this is an active investigation and no further information could be released at this time.

 

Danbury man charged with stealing from unlocked cars

DANBURY — A city man was arrested Wednesday after police said he admitted to getting into several cars in the area of Spruce Mountain Road and stealing a variety of items, including loose change and prescription pills. While speaking with the resident, officers learned State Police had information on a possible suspect, identified as 21-year-old Alex Hulse, of Miry Brook Road. Police said the items included $26 in coins, a lighter, an iPhone, three GPS devices, three prescription pill bottles, a JanSport bookbag and a Nordic jacket.

 

Cops: Son kills father in Southbury, then dies at hospital

Officers were called to the house about 10 p.m. for a reported medical emergency and found the body of Dennis R. Fitzsimmons, 74, lying on the floor, State Police said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which is also assisting in the investigation, is yet to determine the cause and manner of death for both the victim and suspect, police said.

 

Another man gets probation in steroids case

Authorities say the conspiracy was led by former Newtown Police Sgt. Steven Santucci, who for four years imported steroid ingredients from China, repackaged them in a clandestine home laboratory and distributed wholesale quantities of the drug through his accomplices — who then sold to them to bodybuilders in local gyms.

The months-long investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration and Homeland Security Investigations.

 

Thieves target unlocked cars in Danbury area

Over the past few weeks, police in Newtown, Redding, Bethel and Brookfield have urged residents to lock their cars, take their keys and not leave any valuables behind.

Two more teens arrested in Newtown sexting case

Two Newtown High School students were charged Saturday with sharing nude pictures and videos of their classmates, bringing the total of arrests in the school’s sexting investigation to five.

The probe began last May when school administrators learned that several boys and girls were “sexting” — sharing nude photos and videos of themselves and their classmates — through smartphone applications like Snapchat, FaceTime, iMessage and Kik.

Police said the review board is a community-based panel designed for community leaders to take a “tempered response” to what would be considered
