Motorcyclist dies in Brookfield crash

BROOKFIELD — A motorcyclist was killed Saturday night in a three-vehicle crash on Candlewood Lake Road.

The Brookfield Accident Investigation Team (B.A.I.T) is investigating the crash between two cars and a motorcycle that also sent one of the occupants of the car to Danbury Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night near 105 Candlewood Lake Road, which was closed for a few hours overnight.

Early morning fight sends Danbury woman to hospital

Police were called to Elmer’s Diner on Padanaram Road around 2:28 a.m. after a fight broke out between Kennly Caceres, 24, and sisters Carla and Michell Morla, both 27.

The three Danbury women got into a physical fight that sent Caceres to the emergency room with bruises and scratches to her face and a bite on her left arm, police said.

 

Squantz Pond at capacity, closed to new vehicles

The closure to new vehicles comes less than a day after the Squantz Pond swimming area was reopened by DEEP Friday afternoon, after being closed for the past week due to unsafe levels of bacteria.

The department found unsafe levels of so-called “indicator” bacteria last Friday morning as part of the weekly water-quality test the state performs in 23 state park swim areas.

NEW FAIRFIELD—After being closed for a week due to unsafe levels of bacteria, the swimming area at Squantz Pond State Park has been reopened.

An unsafe level of so-called “indicator” bacteria was reported last Friday morning as part of the weekly water-quality test the state performs in 23 state park swim areas, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

DNA leads to suspect in Newtown car theft

Police said Lopez and another, yet to be named, accomplice were tied to the theft of the vehicle from a Newtown residence located on Swamp Rd. in January of 2016.

“Through DNA evidence, that was collected from the interior of the stolen vehicle, Samuel Lopez was identified as a suspect,” Newtown police said in a statement.

 

Northeast Corridor rail plan seeks increased capacity, reliability

A new plan for the Northeast Corridor rail system will focus on expanding tracks and increasing the number and efficiency of commuter trains while postponing a controversial plan to realign tracks in Connecticut.

The Federal Railroad Administration on Wednesday announced that upgrading the Northeast Corridor, which carries 820,000 passengers a day on rails between Washington, D.C. and Boston, will concentrate on improving reliability, capacity, connectivity, performance and resiliency of passenger rail service through 2040.

 

One dead after Newtown boating accident

NEWTOWN - Officials have confirmed that one person is dead following a boating accident that occurred on Lake Zoar late Tuesday. Dennis Schain, a spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, which overseas the state’s waterways, said the accident occurred between two boats around 9:30 p.m. in the Sandy Hook area.

 

Malloy to become a grandfather

During an appearance in his hometown of Stamford Tuesday, Malloy mentioned that his son, Dannel, and his wife are expected their first child, which would be his first grandchild.

The Cohens, who live in Greenwich, donated $5 million to the project, which was cited as the largest donation made to a city park by a private donor.

Danbury accident closes Backus Avenue

DANBURY - Police have closed off Backus Avenue and the off ramp from Interstate 84 in front of the Danbury Fair Mall as a result of a two car crash in the area.

An official with the city’s fire department said two cars were involved in an accident at the intersection of Backus Avenue and the interstate off ramp. The area was closed to traffic around 10 a.m. while tow trucks were in enroute to clear the scene.

Officials said an ambulance responded to the accident but there doesn’t appear to be any major injuries.
